Viscosity bitumen is a refinery bitumen produced by distillation of crude oil with vacuum aeration. Due to its thermoplastic properties, this bitumen is hard and stiff at ambient temperature and becomes soft and spreadable with increasing temperature. This property allows viscosity bitumen to be combined with other materials such as aggregates, polymers, rubbers and plants to produce products with higher mechanical properties than conventional bitumen.
| Grade | Viscosity (at 60 ºC) | Main Applications |
| VG – 10 | Low | Cold surface coatings, seam and crack sealing |
| VG – 20 | Medium | Asphalt construction in cold and high altitude areas |
| VG – 30 | High | Asphalt production with heavy traffic in tropical areas |
| VG – 40 | Very High | Construction of high-traffic asphalt |
